Ferrarese Receives Assembly Proclamation
Victorville, CA. In front of three hundred people attending a fundraiser at Karma in Victorville, Assemblyman Steve Knight offered his praise and appreciation for Don Ferrarese, acknowledging Don’s lifelong commitment to community service and civic engagement. Assemblyman Knight presented Ferrarese with an official proclamation framed and sealed as a gesture of his appreciation for Don’s selfless work for the benefit of others, noting some of Don’s more recent accomplishments, such as starting the Don Ferrarese Charitable Foundation, that has awarded thirty-eight $4,000 scholarships to Victor Valley students based solely upon their charitable service. “There is no greater force than that of the human spirit” Assemblyman offered to those in attendance. “The government is not the answer. The real solution lies in the compassion and generosity of citizens like Don Ferrarese”, Assemblyman Knight continued. Don Ferrarese, reminiscing on growing up, and considering the question of what it was that inspired him to be charitable, Don replied “that is just the way it was when I grew up. When the neighbor needed help, we helped. When our grandparents grew older and needed help, we helped, not the government. It was much like the World War II motto “We are all in this together”. That is how it was growing up. Upon retiring from Major League Baseball and moving to Apple Valley, I joined Kiwanis, where the charitable spirit was really inspired. Seeing all the great things Kiwanis was accomplishing, and the results of these efforts, really convinced me that I wanted to 80th contribute whatever I could to whatever needs there were.” Celebrating his birthday, Don offered his parting advice to crowd, “Enjoy your youth, do not take it for granted and do something meaningful. It will go by too fast”.
